This stunning sterling silver brooch is etched around the outside with thistles and flowers and has a central faceted orange stone that's a very pretty colour. It has full hallmarks on the back with the tree for the Glasgow assay office, the lion mark and the thistle representing Scottish silver, it has the stylized letter 'F' for 1954. The brooch is also stamped on the back with a makers mark, 'RA' in an oval cartouche representing the renowned Scottish jewellers Robert Allison & Son who specialised in making traditional Scottish jeweller between they ears of 1941 - 1982.。Condition。It's in very good lightly used condition in my opinion, the silver has some age related tarnishing and the central stone has some tiny scuffs on the top along one edge, please see photo three. I haven't had the stone verified so cannot be sure if it's a quartz or citrine or wheather it is glass but it is an excellent quality piece. The original pin is strong and in good working order.。Size。It measures approximately 4 centimetres across and the faceted stone which has been left open at the back for maximum light penetration measures approximately 1.5 centimetres across. It weighs 13.96 grams.。Legend of the Scottish thistle。According to Scottish legend the Army of King Haakon of Norway, intent on conquering the Scots landed at the Coast of Largs at night to surprise the sleeping Scottish Clansmen. In order to move more stealthily under the cover of darkness the Norsemen removed their footwear. Unfortunately for the Vikings, one of Haakon’s men stood on a thistle and shrieked in pain alerting the Clansmen of the advancing invaders. Needless to say it was the Scots who won the day!。The first use of the Thistle as a royal symbol of Scotland was on silver coins issued by James III in 1470。ooOoo。Shipping。I ship worldwide with the exception of Mexico (please see note at end). 。This brooch will be posted by Royal Mail special delivery to UK addresses with guaranteed next day delivery.。International delivery is by Royal Mail first class International Tracked and Signed for, or Royal Mail International Tracked, depending on territory as signed service is not available everywhere. 。Please note that any customs, import taxes or other charges are the responsibility of the customer, please be aware of your country's policies.。Your item/s will be posted within 2 working days and a Dispatch Notification will be forwarded to you at this time.
